Surprising Study: Percentage Of Students That Are Virgins

College Is not the Sexual Party that So Many Believe!
Especially for certain Majors.
A college paper was just submitted to me by a student from N.Y.U. and the results surprised the hell out of me. When I entered college I wasn’t a virgin and didn’t know anyone who was one either. But one smart student at NYU did a 1 month study where he advertised in the school paper and on websites asking for help in a study where he needed some questions answered related to their sex lives, or lack of. He received the e-mail addresses of 1,306 students at NYU and another 3,287 from other schools. It seems word spread on a few Facebook groups as well as MySpace and the results of his little quiz came pouring in.

The not so surprising results, according to the un-scientific study was the major being an important factor in a student being a virgin or not. Certain majors skewed the results as you can tell. One funny note was the oldest person responding was in her 60’s but the oldest virgin was 42. I didn’t know there were many 40 year old virgins! Reminds me of that movie that had me laughing my you-know what off.
As with any poll of this nature you would expect people to lie, but with these numbers I would take them as realistic as most people lie the other way by boasting of their sexual experiences, not lack of. People tend to lie about sex and relationships as much as they lie about money. On lying about sex, this reminds me of a joke I was told by one of my own teachers back in High School. He said to the class:
A study was done of high school students and college students. They were all asked in private if they masturbated. 99% admitted that they did, and the other 1% were liars.
College Students – Mandatory from Obama and his Chief of Staff – you Must Comply or Else. see Obama’s Civil Defense Plans Revealed by His Chief of Staff – 18 – 25 year olds are about to be forced to join. i’m a virgin and i would be considered a studio art student. that chart is bullshit and so are statistics

b – There are lies and then there are statistics. Sometimes they are the same. lol Whenever you have a poll people can lie, make things up. It’s all still funny though.

The biggest problem with this type of polling is that the sample is not random. The most apparent issue is that there could be a unknown third variable. For instance, it could simply be the case that virgins have a lot of extra time and energy to take surveys, whereas their counterparts are busy getting it on with art majors.
To make this truly random you would have to randomly pick your subjects, rather than ask for them to pick themselves.
And yes, I am a psych major if you can’t tell.

well im 24 and def still a virgin im no prude but hell in this day and age us fussy people will live the longest

Kly – You’re right and I was surprised that no one made a comment like ” I bet that only the virgins even had time to participate”. I’m glad you mentioned that!
Zjarr – Live long and prosper! Nothing wrong with being a virgin at all. You do things on your own timetable and when it’s right, I’m sure you’ll know.

It would make sense that virgins would be more apt to respond to a survey asking about such things. Most of the virgins I know have this “virgin and proud” attitude. Sex is a bigger deal to those who haven’t had it, so of course the people who haven’t had it replied more to the call for such a survey.
The results are skewed. I go to a relatively conservative university and those numbers are way too high for even here.

It’s data from a single study of about 5000 students, not objective truth. Get over it.
Elyse | Feb 6, 2008 | Reply
those results are not statistically significant in any way shape or form.

Elyse – What in life is statistically significant in any way shape or form?

Soooo you’re criticizing the integrity of her statistics, and then insinuating that they’re wrong based on your far superior method of casual observation and your gut?

unless your waiting for marriage, you virgins need to get on that, stat.
I’m dating an art major (in NYC), def not a virgin and her friends (girls/guys) are sex crazy with each other. Kinda scary.

I’d say the computer science students didn’t quite understand or had a definition of their own ;P

haha, it’s funny how art students are far from virgins and that they are sex crazy. im not in fine art (im in fashion design if that makes any difference) but i hear from my friend that in her fine art class people talk about porn and examine the various parts as a common conversation. i think art students are just more open with stuff like this.
funnily, im a virgin myself and it’s not like i deliberately not have sex, i havent met a person who i like enough to have sex.

Well, even if the results are skewed, it still shows an interesting relation between majors and the amount of virgings percentage-wise among the students taking that major.

More like a Stat major.
icallbull | Jun 8, 2009 | Reply
This chart is so full of bull. There are a lot of trolls that pretend to be 40. these were mostly done online right? Can’t you see the irony in posting as a 40 yearold virgin?
Also, the statistics are so fake. Obviously the people who responded are liars.

I am actually a 25 year old virgin, and in my family my great aunt died at the age of 90 a virgin and I have a cousin who is 42 year old virgin. It’s not that my family are prunes but careful, we wait for someone we want to have sex with. My aunt wasn’t so luck, and my cousin is a little anti-social.

yes my name is REALLY virginia, and i am REALLY a virgin. I am a business major, but thats not up there:P
i hate that virgins are stereotypically losers. maybe we just have morals and self-control. i personally want to save myself for someone that will love our children one day. And yes, i believe that it’s possible to be in love with one person f.o.r.e.v.e.r. It happens:)
